My best friend, Lauren, and I decided to take a trip up to this little slice of heaven; this is what we discovered. Portland is the perfect spot for both excitement and relaxation. With the combination of downtown, pier, and countryside, Portland creates a great experience for anyone.

If you don’t already know, Maine is famous for their delicious lobsters and blueberries. They’ve got everything from cracking your own lobster to buttery lobster rolls. Their seafood is caught fresh daily, and with the town being close-knit; it makes the fisherman that much more reputable. We indulged in lobster rolls ourselves at Boone’s, and when I say it was exquisite, I truly mean it. Maine crafts their blueberries in many different ways; you can try it in your ice cream, pancakes, or even a cocktail. We decided to try blueberry mojitos from Luke’s; enjoying every sip with the scenic view of the ocean all around us is something I’ll always remember.

Speaking of scenery, the rolling green hills complement the crisp coastal breeze all year round. We took a stroll through Cape Elizabeth, admiring the Portland Head Light historic lighthouse; built in 1791 making it the oldest lighthouse in Maine. The gorgeous trail leads you through Fort Williams Mine Casement and to The Goddard Mansion. I was fascinated by the beauty of this historic area.

Lauren and I booked a sunset cruise on a Windjammer along the coast. We enjoyed the nice weather and views, we even saw some dolphins. We were surprised to learn the boat we were on was 115 years old because it was in amazing condition. The crew was just as happy to be there as we were, they answered any questions we had with enthusiasm. I love being around people who enjoy their job. This was my favorite part of our trip by far, and I couldn’t recommend this experience more.

Portland has quite a few pubs and breweries. They are well known for their ciders, which you can taste a variety of them at Freedom’s Edge. Maine-brewed ciders are sold locally throughout the town and if you have the chance, I personally think they’re worth trying!
Every time I’m in Maine, I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Although I’ve only started visiting for a year now, this place feels like a home away from home. I know this gorgeous state will be part of my life forever now and for that I am grateful. I can’t recommend planning a trip here enough; I am already looking forward to the next time I get to go. If anyone reading this has any towns in Maine you think are worth seeing, feel free to message me, I would love to check them out!
