Positano – The Almalfi Coast

If you haven’t read about my experience in Rome and want to, that post is published on this blog! Florence and Venice are next to come.

My boyfriend, Andrew, and I were sad to say goodbye to Rome; although, we knew we had an amazing adventure ahead of us. We took the train to Salerno, then a ferry to Positano. I recommend taking the ferry, it’s the most beautiful and scenic way to get to the town. If anyone reading this decides to stay in Positano, make sure you take your hotel up on their baggage service, don’t make the same mistake we did by thinking we could carry our bags ourselves. The town is made up of hundreds of stairs, our hotel, in particular, was 370 stairs from the beach; luckily for me, Andrew is sweet and carried all of our bags for us. We stayed at Hotel Vittoria and I could not recommend this hotel enough. The staff was lovely, they truly care about your experience and are happy to be living in such a gorgeous place; they have endless suggestions on where to eat and what activities to do. They provide a free breakfast every morning on the most beautiful balcony with an ocean view; not to mention, the rooms are impeccable, being cleaned every day and having a breathtaking view. As you can tell, I feel very grateful to have stayed here and hope to do so again in the near future.

Once we arrived and got settled in our hotel we went to Ristorante Saraceno D’oro for the most amazing pizza and calzone. I usually have a hard time finishing my food, but I ate this entire calzone (I know it’s huge, I regret nothing). We decided to check out the main beach and the town. Strolling through stores and basking in the beach aroma, we had to try a tasty shot of the famous Limoncello, and we enjoyed viewing the endless artwork for sale that made me feel like I was in heaven. We spent the latter half of the day tanning at the private beach before enjoying dinner and gelato.

The next day was my absolute favorite! If I could have a perfect day it would go exactly how this day went. We decided to purchase chairs on the private beach for the day and relax. We basked in the gloriously clear water, hot summer sun, delicious foods, and drinks while spending time reading our books. Once we were all beached out, we went back to the hotel and got dressed up for a fancy dinner I had booked months prior at Lo Guarracino. The food and staff were amazing. We were outside with the most beautiful view and two other couples who we talked to about their time on the coast. We decided to walk around town; I took the stairs in my heels like a champ. Finding a local store to get some snacks, we went back to the hotel and watched Luca to end the perfect day.

Our last full day on the coast was spent kayaking and looking through the last of the city we didn’t see previously. Andrew and I collect art when we go on trips together so we can fill our future home with memories from our travels, we bought a beautiful piece that we thought represented Positano to the fullest. We decided to eat at the first restaurant we ate here because it was just that good. Our meal ended up getting by the nicest couple who sat next to us, after exchanging life stories and our time in Italy. If you haven’t yet caught on, we like interacting with the people around us; we believe one of the best ways to learn is by listening to other’s experiences. We took our last walk on the beach and I honestly thought I was going to cry, I loved this part of our trip so much and didn’t want it to end. I could see myself living here part-time in the future.

I think about our trip every day, but this town has the most special place in my heart. The people were so welcoming and genuinely happy, every bite of food was perfect, the weather was gorgeous, the water was amazing, and even walking all those stairs everyday was growing on me.

Up next is our time in Northern Italy. Comment down below, or email me with your experiences from Italy, I’d love to try out new things the next time I go.
